An Epic Tale of Determination and Faith
Showdown at Devil's Butte

In 1893, the Cherokee Strip was officially opened. Thousands of pioneers left their homes and made the wild and chaotic race to establish new homes and lives in the Cherokee Strip.

They brought with them their hopes and dreams and their faith in God. It was this faith that led them not only to endure the extreme hardships of this new land but also to persevere through religious prejudices to build a lasting Catholic church of their own in Oklahoma territory.
